School Snack Ideas

Everyone around me seems to be heading back to school: Taryn is off to do her fancy phD, my sister-in-laws are heading off to university, high school and elementary school.  I feel like I'm missing all the fun back to school shopping!  But then I remember all the exam cramming and report writing... maybe I don't miss school so much.

To make your life a little bit easier, I've been brainstorming some ideas for easy snacks you can pack and take with you when you're in the middle of class and hunger punches you right in the kidneys.  Or stomach.  Whatever.

Let us know in the comments below what YOUR favourite healthy snacks are for school!

Roasted Chickpeas
A great, cruncky alternative to chips!

Homemade Trail Mix
1/2 cup of almonds (or soy nuts if you're allergic to nuts!)
1/2 cup of roasted pumpkin seeds (I roast mine in the oven with a bit of seasoning salt!)
1/2 dried fruit (no added sugar!)
1/4 cup of your favourite treat (I like these organic chocolate chips)

Mix everything together and divide into baggies (1 small handful in each baggie).

Fruit & Cheese
This was one of my favourites growing up - and still is!
1 cup of Red grapes
1oz Low fat old cheddar
Wrap the cheese in plastic wrap and plop it into a plastic container full of ice.  This'll keep it fresh for when you want it!  Just make sure everything is sealed tightly!

  1. I like to take a bunch of toothpicks and put chedder cheese and red grapes on them together. You wouldn't think they taste very good together but it actually tastes great!
Great tips, I think I will make the homemade trail mix tomorrow!
